How to build a wall with a garage door opening.
Simply nail a 1 x 1 x 4 piece of pine to each end stud and run the string to each end.
Headers should be a minimum of 12 wide.
As you place each garage wall framing structure into position you want to first make sure it is in a straight line before you secure your bracing.
You do this with a string line run along the top plate out from the edge of the plate about 1 2.
Install 1 2 inch plywood to sheath the exterior of the garage door opening.
Add siding to match existing house materials on the outside of the new wall.
Doubled 2 4 s at minimum should be at each edge of the garage door to allow for the mounting of the tracks and jamb brackets.
Pull a measurement from the floor of your space to the ceiling next to the door opening.
Cut two 2 x 6 pieces of lumber and attach to the face of the wall running from the edge of your garage door jambs to the ceiling of your garage.
Nail 2x4s together to form l s and use them to temporarily hold the gable end trusses upright.
Lay out the truss locations on the plates spacing them every 2 ft.
Calculate the placement for any door opening and cut the jack and cripple studs to length.
Take the shortest ceiling measurement subtract the thickness of the two plates and cut all the studs to this length.
Cover plywood sheets with a protective house wrap material before adding any type of siding.
Cut the top and bottom plates to the measured length of the new wall.
